Skin Clinic FAQs
How soon can I have an appointment?
We have a consultant dermatologist available every weekday. You can usually have an appointment booked in within 24 hours. In some cases, depending on availability, you may be able to have your appointment scheduled for the same day as well.
Which consultant will I see?
You are free to book an appointment with any of our consultant dermatologists, male and female, all of whom are experts in the treatment of skin conditions.
If you wish to see a specific consultant please mention their name when booking. This however, may lead to a small delay in your initial appointment.
Does having a biopsy hurt?
It can be a little uncomfortable, however, the consultant will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible. It only takes a few minutes to perform the test.
How long does it take to get my test results?
Your histopathology results are usually available within 5 days. Your consultant will go over your results in details at the time of your appointment. A copy of the results will also be sent to you.
How much does it cost?
The costs range from £250 for initial consultation to £350 for a second opinion and £180 to £225 for follow-up consultations. There are additional charges for any investigations or diagnostic tests. More information.
Surgery FAQs
Where will my surgery take place?
Your skin procedures under local anaesthetic will be carried out within our day surgery unit in the clinic itself.
Do I need to come back to remove my stitches?
Our team will arrange an appointment that suits your availability, this is usually 7-10 days after your procedure.
What do I do if I notice changes in my wound?
Although wound infection is rare, you should still be aware of any changes to your wound site and its surrounding areas. Some tenderness, redness and swelling is normal after skin surgery. If you experience ongoing redness, pain, swelling, or oozing or you develop a fever we urge you to contact the clinic immediately.
When can I resume my activities?
Avoid swimming or other activities where the treatment area is immersed in water until the sutures have been removed and for longer if required. We highly recommend avoiding strenuous exercises or activity that would significantly stretch the wound. The wound needs time to heal (at least 2-3 weeks).
Can I take a shower post my operation?
It’s quite safe to get your wound damp (not wet) after the 3rd day following your surgery; the dressing covering your wound is mostly waterproof, although soaking your wound in a bath, or swimming, is not recommended for 2 weeks.
